When we arrived at the dock to take the ferry to the statue of liberty, the media was there as well. We were escorted on to the ferry. The water was rough and the ferry was rocking from side to side. Cuddles never seemed to get motion sickness. We got off the ferry and she had lunch on the lawn. We were told that, that was the first time a horse had ever been out to the statue of liberty. Normally they do not even allow dogs on the lawn but because Cuddles was the first Guide Horse they would allow it. We did a few interviews with the press and talked to a few people there. Then it was time to leave. As we were on the ferry going back to the main land, I was thinking, how could all this be happening to me? Why me? My only answer was what I have stated from the beginning, I am truly blessed. It all seems like a dream; I hoped it wasn't because I really liked my new life with Cuddles. We finally got back to the dock where we started from, CNN was still with us and we where headed for F.A.O Schwarz. Now I do not know if you have ever been there before or not, but there was so many toys making so many different sounds. Cuddles and I walked through the entire store and never bumped into anything. She never seemed to be distracted by the things happening around her. We took the escalator up to the second floor, which was just as filled with excitement as the first. There were children running and playing everywhere. There were toys on the floor, shopping carts with children in them pleading with moms for this or that - just general mayhem and confusion. Also remember CNN was still following us and Jenny Moos was finding toys for Cuddles. Once again my little soldier prevailed. She led me around the second floor again never bumping into anything or anyone. When it was time to go I said "Cuddles find the escalator". A few minutes later I was in front of them. One step and we were on our way down without a hitch. When we reached the bottom of the escalator Jenny Moos came down with a big stuffed donkey for Cuddles (see the CNN Jenny Moos Interview May 29th 2001). We had a great time. When we left the the toy store we headed for Central Park. When we got there there was a line of horse drawn carriages parked along the side of the street. I decided to let Cuddles pick which Carriage she wanted to ride on. She walked past about four or five before she stopped and came nose to nose with one horse. It was like they were saying hello. I smiled and told the driver cuddles had picked
his horse and carriage to drive her around Central Park. Janet,
Jennifer, Cuddles and I all got into the carriage and took a ride
through Central Park. I thought how amazing this was a horse giving
another horse a ride. |
